2015 Ultimate Open Grand Prix competition – results

A fantastic weekend for Clyde Judo with some great results at the 2015 Ultimate Open Grand Prix competition in Meadowbank on Sunday 22/02/2015.

Truly excellent results: 6 Golds, 7 Silvers and 6 Bronzes!

I saw some very impressive judo in all of the matches – all of the club entries (medal or no medal) should be very proud of themselves. Certainly your parents are!

Not competing but making a big contribution by refereeing was Benedict Ray who was looking very assured in the matches that he managed.

Cancellation of the European Judo Championships has been confirmed

The British Judo Association has confirmed that the European Judo Championships due to be held in Glasgow in April have been cancelled.

A great disappointment as we were all looking forward to seeing some great judo and many people have worked very hard to prepare for the event.

Three Clyde Judo judoka selected for the Cadet European Cup

Three Clyde Judo judoka have been selected for the Cadet European Cup in Spain on 14 March 2015:

  • Erin Peden (who now can’t go owing to injury)
  • Laura Hewitt
  • Rachel Towle

Well done and good luck at the competition.

Further BJA update on the European Judo Championships

This afternoon, the BJA issued a further update on the situation with regards to the cancellation of the European Judo Championships in Glasgow:

Following a board meeting on Tuesday 17th British Judo can confirm that we continue to work with our lawyers with regards our position with the EJU and the European Judo Championships. On their advice and as soon as we are able, we will release a full statement explaining the current position.

BJA update on the European Judo Championships

The British Judo Association has provided an update on the current situation with the European Judo Union withdrawing the right to hold the European Judo Championships in Glasgow:

British Judo wanted to update members and ticket holders to explain that we are still waiting for further communication from the European Judo Union following our request to meet, after their most recent communication withdrawing our rights to host the upcoming Championships.

We still hope that we can reverse the decision and still deliver the celebration of judo that we had so meticulously planned to do.

We will continue to keep all our members, ticket holders and athletes updated on any developments.

Judo Scotland National Grading results

A number of members from the club were at the Judo Scotland National Grading in Glenrothes on Sunday 15 February 2015 and the following results were obtained:

  • Marcus Ray won another 20 points towards his 1st Dan.
  • Aiden McCardle won all the points he needs for his 1st Dan and now just has to do the theory examination to gain his 1st Dan.
  • Louis Saez was promoted to 1st Kyu.

Well done to all of you.

2015 Northwest Area Age Banded Championships – results

The 2015 Northwest Area Age Banded Championship was held in St. Helens on 14&15 February 2015.

The club results were:

  • Rebecca Lamb Pre-Cadet U36kg – Bronze
  • Ezri Bradley Pre-Cadet U44kg – Bronze
  • Melissa McGill Pre-Cadet U57kg – Bronze
  • Rachel Towle Cadet U44kg – 5th
  • Erin Peden Cadet U48kg – Bronze
  • Laura Hewitt Cadet U52kg – 5th

Great results in a tough competition.

The Midland Area Age Band Championships were held in Walsall on Sat/Sun 31 January 2015 – 1 February 2015.
