Future competition round-up

A quick round-up of future competitions where the club will be attending.

Competitions suitable for younger and less-experienced judoka

2014 British Championships for 10- and 11-year olds on 19/10/2014 (closing date 10/10/2014). We are considering attending this competition if there is enough interest. Please speak to Susie (soon!) if you are interested in attending this competition.

Hibarikan Junior Open on 25/10/2014 (closing 20/10/2014). Always a fun local competition and well worth entering. Note that AA must be 6th Mon or below, A 9th Mon or below and B/C 12th Mon or below. We expect to have a fair number of folk from the club entering and the more the merrier.

2014 Scottish National Closed Championships AA & A Bands on 08/11/2014 (closing date 31/10/2014). This is a good event for all qualified judoka (must be A- or AA-band and a Judo Scotland member) and well worth attending if your can.

Inverclyde Challenge on 16/11/2014 (closing date 08/11/2014)- This is a development event for AA-band and A-band judoka. It’s a local competition (Greenock Sports Centre) and a great opportunity for younger judoka. Please note that Scottish Mini Mon gold or silver medallists or any British medallists cannot enter. The maximum entry is only 150 so get your entry in quickly!

Kendal Open Coloured Belt Competition on 30/11/2014 (closing date 23/11/2014). We are trying to gauge interest in this competition. If you are interested in attending then please speak to Susie.

 

General competitions

Granite City Open Grand Prix on 11/10/2014 (closing date 03/10/2014). The club should have a big presence at this competition. It’s not too late to enter but be quick! If you haven’t attended one of Judo Scotland’s Grand Prix events before then you should consult one of the coaches before entering.

 

Competitions for more-experienced or development scheme judoka

2014 Scottish National Closed Championships Pre-Cadet Cadet and Junior on 09/11/2014 (closing date 31/10/2014). This is a good event for all qualified judoka and well worth attending if your can.

Welsh Open International Championships 2014 on 01&02/11/2014 (closing date 17/10/2014). This competition is suitable for only a couple of the older judoka. It is essential that you consult with one of the coaches before entering.

2014 British Championships for Pre Cadets and Cadets on 06 and 07/12/2014. This competition is suitable for only older judoka. It is essential that you consult with one of the coaches before entering.

British Championships for Juniors on 13/12/2014. This competition is suitable for only a couple of the older judoka. It is essential that you consult with one of the coaches before entering.

Scottish Junior/Senior/Masters Open and camp on 17/01/2015 (closing date 09/01/2015). This competition is suitable for only a couple of the older judoka. It is essential that you consult with one of the coaches before entering.

Not a competition that we will be entering but certainly should be attending is the Glasgow European Open on 04/10/2014 at the Glasgow Emirates Arena. It’s not too late to get tickets and they are not expensive.

2014 Highland Region Open Championship results

Some of the team were up in Fort William at the weekend for the 2014 Highland Region Open Championship:

  • Ursula Saez A-band Combined U44/48kg – Silver
  • David Sommerville A-band U46kg – Silver
  • Connor Wilson B-band U50kg – Gold & U55kg – Silver
  • Louis Saez B-band U66kg – Gold
  • Benedict MacLennan-Patton O66kg – Silver
  • Laura Hewitt C-band U52kg Gold & Senior U52kg Gold

A great result from both of them. Well done!

2014 Heart of England results

Some results from the 2014 Heart of England competition.

Christopher Love came 5th in the Pre-Cadet U55kg competition.
Ezri Bradley came 5th in the Pre-Cadet U44kg competition.
Melissa McGill came 5th in the Pre-Cadet U57kg competition.
Rachel Towle won a Bronze in the Cadet U44kg and a Silver in the Junior U44kg competition.
Michael Love came 5th in the Junior U81kg competition.

Good results in a tough competition and well done to Rachel in picking up two medals.

Sainsbury’s 2014 School Games results

Erin Peden and Connor Wilson were down in Manchester last weekend for the Sainsbury’s 2014 School Games as part of the Scottish Team and both came back with medals.

Erin Peden won a Silver medal in the U-44kg competition.

Connor Wilson won a Bronze medal in the U-50kg competition.

Excellent results from both!
