Rachel Towle selected for the Scottish team in the 2013 National Team Championships by Area

Rachel Towle has been selected to compete for the Scottish Team in the 2013 National Team Championships by Area to be held at the University of Wolverhampton on Saturday 6th July 2013.

Last year Scotland won 3 out of the 4 Gold medals on offer with the Junior Girls taking Bronze – so, no pressure Rachel! đŸ™‚

Coming after a year in which Rachel won both 2012 British B-band U32kg Championship and the Judo Scotland 2012-2013 B-band U32kg Grand Prix, it’s no surprise that she got picked for the team.

Both Rachel and the Scotland team have all our best wishes.

Clyde Judo Club and Hibarikan Judo Club attending the Kent International this weekend

A big team from Clyde Judo Club and Hibarikan Judo Club is heading south to Crystal Palace in London tomorrow to compete in the Kent International competition.

Together with Hibarikan Judo Club, we have filled a 49 seat coach for the trip. We will all be staying at the same hotel and supporting each other at the competition.

In total, there will be 23 competitors representing the two clubs. That’s a fantastic turnout for such a distant competition.

Good luck to all of the competitors from Clyde and Hibarikan!

Training sessions over the 2013 Summer holidays

As is usual practice, there will be no Sunday training sessions at Bishopton during the Summer holidays.

The last Sunday training session was on 26/06/2013.

There will be no training on a Sunday between 30/06/2013 and 11/08/2013 inclusive.

The first Sunday training session after the Summer holidays will be on Sunday 18/08/2013 (the weekend after the Renfrewshire schools go back).

Friday and Tuesday sessions will carry on as normal with one exception:

  • The session at Erskine on Tuesday 30/07/2013 has been cancelled owing to so many people being away on the Belgian Judo training trip.

Over the Summer, we hope to arrange a couple of trips on Friday evenings to other clubs so we can hold joint training sessions. We’ll also have some clubs visit us at Bishopton. This will provide the children with the opportunity to experience difference coaching and Judo styles. We’ll let you know more closer to the dates.

If you have any questions about this Susie can provide additional information.

2018 Youth Olympic Games – Glasgow needs your vote

Judo Scotland has published a request that Judoka support Glasgow’s bid to host the 2018 Youth Olympic Games by voting in an online poll run by “Inside the Games”.

On the 4th July 2013 the International Olympic Committee will make a decision on who will be the next host city of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

As many of you will be aware Glasgow is currently bidding against Buenos Aires in Argentina and Medellin in Colombia to win the right to host the Games, seeking to build on the opportunities created by both London 2012 and Glasgow 2014.

As was the case when Glasgow won the race to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the city needs your support more than ever to help bring the Youth Olympic Games to Glasgow in 2018!

A key Olympic trade publication, Inside the Games, is running an online poll asking people to vote for the city they would like to see host the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Voting ends on the 2nd of July and the results will then be compiled, published and possibly read by IOC members 1 day before they cast their vote for host city on the 4th July.

Refereeing success – 2 new Clyde Judo Area Referees
