Clyde Challenge 2011 – Photography registration form

The policy for the use of photographic equipment at the Clyde Challenge 2011 will be in line with Judo Scotland’s policy.

That policy allows photography but does require that anyone wishing to use photographic or film equipment registers with the event organiser.

The registration form is  here.

If you are planning to use a camera at the Clyde Challenge 2011 (and in these days of a camera in every mobile phone, who isn’t?), it would be very helpful if you completed the form in advance in order to avoid queues at the entry desk.

Our thanks to Frania at Judo Scotland for organising the form for us.

Club meet – Premier Judo School visiting

We are going to be doing something a little different next week on Sunday 6 November 2011.

The PJS club will be visiting Clyde Judo Club and so a there is a change to the usual programme of events.

Most importantly, there is going to be a change of venue.

Our usual Sunday home, Bishopton Scout Hall will not be available owing to the Bishopton Scouts having to tidy-up after their usually quite splendid annual fireworks display (if you are interested, the display is scheduled for 5 November 2011, 1930hrs at the ROF car park, Station Road Bishopton. Entry £1.00 per person. Hotdogs / Toffee Apples/Popcorn / Glow Sticks will be on sale)

For one day only (6 November 2011), our Sunday home will be Kilbarchan Scout Hall, Barn Green, Kilbarchan. PA10 2HG.

Session times will be different as we’ll split the session in a training session for the older kids and a more games and randori-based session for the younger children.

For the parents, there will be tea, coffee and cakes available for a modest charge. So, come and enjoy a Sunday Afternoon Tea whilst the kids do all the hard work.

For children aged 10 and over, the training session will run from 1200hrs until 1330hrs.

For children aged 10 and under, the games/randori session will run from 1330hrs until roughly 1600hrs.

(Yes, children aged 10 get to go to both sessions!)

Club meets are a great way for the children to experience different Judo styles in a training environment rather than in competition.

The children benefit hugely from that experience and the chance to meet new friends and also just have some fun.

So, if you can, please make an effort to come along on Sunday 6 November 2011. I can’t promise free tea and coffee but it will be cheap.

We have some top-notch baking specialists already planning a cake and cookie making session so there will be plenty of scrumptious cakes available on the day.

Results – Habari Kan Junior Open

The children did very well yesterday at the Habari Kan Junior Open held at Larkhall Leisure Centre.

The results were:

  • Rebecca Lamb – AA-band Pool 1 – Silver. An excellent result in what is only the second competition that Rebecca has entered.
  • Kyle Watt – AA-band Pool 3 – Gold. Kyle worked hard and it is hard to believe that this was his first competition!
  • Connor Wilson – A-band U34kg – Bronze.
  • Christopher Love – A-band U38kg – Gold.
  • Benedict (2) MacLennan-Patton – A-band U46kg – Gold.
  • Benedict (1) Ray – A-band O50kg – Bronze.
  • Louis Saez – A-Band O50kg – Silver.
  • Rachel Towle – B/C-band U32kg – Gold.
  • Laura Green – B/C U57kg – Silver.
  • Eilidh McEwan – B/C U57kg – Bronze. Another fine performance in a first competition.

Our good friend Ezri Bradley (fighting for Weymss Bay Judo Club) won Silver in the A-band U32kg competition.

Pictures to follow…

Our thanks to the competition organisers for a well-run and fun Junior competition.

The “medals” were also rather unusual and striking:

Results – North West Area AA & A Banded Championships

Christopher Love was competing in the North West Area AA & A Banded Championships last weekend (on Sunday 23rd October 2011) and came home from what is a very tough competition with a Bronze medal in the A-band U38kg category.

Despite injuring himself in his losing semi-final, Christopher battled on to win his fight for the Bronze Medal and did us all proud.

Here he is with the other medal winners:

Bag pack at Asda Linwood – A big Thank You!

Clyde Judo Club Parents’ Committee held a bag packing session at Asda, Linwood on Thursday evening 20/10/2011.

The session raised several hundred pounds towards  supporting the aims of Clyde Judo Club in areas such as external training courses e.g. First Aid, coaching, equipment purchase and supporting individual Judoka in travelling to national and international competitions and training camps.

We would like to thank Asda for allowing us this important fund raising opportunity and especially the staff  at the Linwood store who made us very welcome.

Thanks also to the parents and children who turned out to help and supported the event in other ways. It might not look it but it is hard work packing shopping bags!

Clyde Challenge 2011 Sponsor news

We’d like to thank Seedhill Van Hire for supporting the Clyde Challenge 2011.

Seedhill Van Hire is providing the club with a subsidised van for the duration of the competition. That will assist us enormously in moving items such as mats into the venue and we are very grateful for the help that Seedhill Van Hire has given the club.

A date for your diary

Just a note to let folk know that the Clyde Judo Club Christmas Party will be held on the evening of Saturday 3rd December 2011. Judoka, siblings and parents are invited.

Some of the details are fuzzy at this point in time (e.g. the venue!) but the party will consist of a buffet supper, cèilidh and the Clyde Judo Club 2011 awards.

It is rumoured that a certain well-known Judoka will be visiting from Northern climes. He can be recognised by his distinctive red Judogi.

This is a great family occasion so please make an effort to come.
