Clyde Challenge 2011

We mentioned a few weeks ago that the club would be running a competition at the end of November 2011.

We’ve now sorted out all of the details and I’ll list them at the end of this post.

I’ll also put up a dedicated Clyde Challenge 2011 web page so that it can be the definitive source of information regarding the competition (rather than trying to hunt through old posts for some piece of information.)

Before I get into the details of the competition, I’d like to state what it is that we are trying to achieve.

As a club, we aim to support Judoka at all levels of skill and we feel that beginners or less-experienced players are not well supported on the competition circuit. That first step into competitive Judo can be rather daunting. It isn’t actually so but if you’ve never been in a competition then you wouldn’t know that.

For that reason, we’ve structured the competition into four separate sections:-

  • Red belt only for age bands AA, A, B&C
  • Yellow belt only for age band AA
  • Yellow and orange belts only for age band A
  • Yellow through to green belt for age bands B & C

We’ll use a less formal approach on the day for players in the less-experienced categories.

If you’ve never considered entering a competition before then this is the competition for you. You’ll be up against other Judoka of broadly similar skill levels even if you are a relative beginner. We hope that you’ll enter and give competition a try.

I promised details, so here they are…

2011 Scottish Age Band Championship podium photographs

Here are some of the podium shots from the 2011 Scottish Age Band Championships held at Ravenscraig on 17th September 2011.

Scottish Age Band Championship results

Two new champions at the Scottish Age Band Championship, both in tough categories.

Well done!

The competition was held at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre on Saturday 17th September 2011 and the children brought home a good haul of medals.

Without further ado, the results are:

  • Christopher Love A-band U38kg Gold
  • Katrhyn Meenan A-band U36kg Bronze
  • Benedict Ray A-band O46kg Bronze
  • Rachel Towle B-band U32kg Silver
  • Erin Peden B-band U36kg Bronze
  • Marcus Ray B-band U55kg Gold

Susie is very pleased with all of the children and the spectators could all see the hard work being done out there on the mat.

I’ll try and post some podium shots once Iain gives them to me. No pressure there Iain!

Weigh-in times for the Scottish Age Band Championships

The weigh-in times for the Scottish Age Band Championships (17/09/2011) are now up on the Judo Scotland web site along with a draft event timeline.

The weigh-in times are:

  • BAND 08:30 – 09:15
  • B BAND 09:30 – 10:15
  • C BAND 11:30 – 12:30
  • D BAND 13:00 – 1330

Good luck to all of Clyde Judo’s entries this year. Eleven Judoka in all which is a good turn out.

Another date for your diary

Just a note that the Granite City Open Championship is scheduled for 12th November 2011.

The entry forms are not available yet but it is probably worth trying to book a hotel room at the moment. Travelodge are rumoured to have a sale on at the moment (£19 per night). For those with more upmarket tastes, Premier Inn is £29 per night with a fairly good deal on paid adult plus free kid’s breakfast.

Parents’ Committee meeting Sunday 18th September 2011

There will be a meeting of the Parents’ Committee during the training session at Bishopton on Sunday 18th September 2011.

All parents are welcome so please do come along. Your voice is important to the club and how the Parents’ Committee supports its development.

The agenda will be published slightly closer to the day.

Senior results

Congratulations to Andrew Smith, one of the senior members of the club.

Competing in the first British Special Needs Open competition held in Largs at the end of August, Andrew took gold in his category with some splendid Judo.

Andrew wasn’t the only Scottish Judoka to win a medal and the full results from the competition are on the Scottish SN Judo website.
