Entry form for the Hibari Kan Junior Open is now available

Judo Scotland has posted the entry form for the Hibari Kan Junior Open, to be held at the Larkhall Leisure Centre.

The closing date for entries is the Monday 24th October 2011 but, as always, I would advise getting your entry in as early as possible, as entry sometimes closes early if the maximum number of competitors has been reached (225, for this competition.)

The competition will run in three categories:

  • AA – Born 2002,2003. Competitors must be at least 8 years old on the day of the competition. 12th Mon and below.
  • A – born 2000, 2001. 12th Mon and below.
  • B/C – born 1996, 1997,1998,1999. 1st to 12th Mon only.

This is a very good competition to attend and the grade limits for this year’s event make it an excellent introduction to competition for less experienced Judoka.

The club’s players did very well at the competition last year and it would be nice if we could repeat that success. The more entries, the merrier!

As the entry form on the Judo Scotland web site is in MS Word 2007 format and not everyone’s browser or word processor can eat that format, we’ve converted the form into more common formats for you

As usual, check with Susie to make sure the competition is suitable for your child.

A date for your diary – Sunday 27th November 2011

Some of you might have noticed on the Judo Scotland web site that Sunday 27th November 2011 will be the date for the “Clyde Red Rumble”.

Yes, that right – Clyde Judo Club will be running a competition on that date (and somewhere local for once!)

The competition title is just a placeholder at the moment as we are still working out what kind of competition it will be and expect to be able to announce the details very soon.

We have have an experienced team running the competition and the one thing we know is that we will need lots of help from the parents. So, make sure you have that date in your diary.

Now would be a good time to start collecting stuff for Jan’s tombola and raffle! Any donations can be brought to one of the training sessions.

If you are free to help on that day, please let Jan, Iain or Susie know.

Even if your child is too young to take part in a competition, bring them along so they can see what happens at a competition and they can cheer on their older club mates.

Bag pack at Marks & Spencer – A big thank you

Clyde Judo Club Parents’ Committee held a bag packing session at Marks & Spencer Braehead on Saturday 20/08/2011. The session raised several hundred pounds.

We would like to thank Marks & Spencer for allowing us this important fund raising opportunity and especially the staff  at the Braehead store who made us very welcome.

The money raised will go to supporting the aims of Clyde Judo Club in areas such as external training courses e.g. First Aid, coaching, equipment purchase and supporting individual Judoka in travelling to national and international competitions and training camps. It is speculated that there might be some element of subsidy to the Christmas Party.

Thanks also to the parents and children who turned out to help on the day and supported the event in other ways.

Scottish Age Band Championships – Get those entries in NOW!

Scottish Age Band Championships – Get those entries in NOW!

I notice that Judo Scotland has the following on the front page of their website

Over 100 people entered into the Scottish Age Bands. Get your entry in NOW to avoid disappointment

That’s quite a high level of entries this far out from the competition date, which would suggest a fair chance that entry to the competition will close early.

So, don’t delay!

It only takes 5 minutes to enter online. Full details on the competition here*

Update (25/08/2011): The Judo Scotland web site now states that over 200 entries have been received. It looks like entry will close early.

*5 minutes to enter and 30 minutes hunting for the Judo Scotland license that is no longer where it is supposed to be.

Reminder – Sunday Judo sessions resume 19th August 2011

Just a reminder that Sunday Judo sessions resume on the 19th August 2011 21st August 2011 and on the following Tuesday (23rd August 2011) the club is back at Erskine Community Sports Centre.

As ever, times and locations for training sessions can be found on this page.

(Update: Apologies for getting Sunday’s date wrong.)

Judo Scotland has posted the entry form for the Scottish Age Band Championships.

For those of you who do not enjoy the romance of sticking a stamp on an envelope, it is possible to enter online.

The closing date for entries is the 9th September 2011 but I would advise getting your entry in as early as possible, as entry sometimes closes early if the maximum number of competitors has been reached.

Clyde Judo Judoka helps out at the International Children’s Games

One of Clyde Judo’s judoka, Eleanor MacLennan-Patton, was helping out with the Judo event at the International Children’s Games 2011 as a Junior Official.

Eleanor reports that the event was hard work but that she got to see some outstanding Judo.

Congratulations to all of those who took part.

The Games has a flickr page up with a selection of photographs from the Judo event.

Update: Judo Scotland has the results and some video here.
